Food Combinations 042613

This is the weekly food combinations segment for our blog. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites.

Returning from week one is the banana which now partners with peanut butter. Elvis had it right! You initially might think they wouldn't do well together but tang of the peanut butter plays well with the mild sweetness of the banana. They are delicious alone together or as part of a sandwich, cookie or bread.

In honor of their most famous fan you should try them in a sandwich. Here you can find a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich at allrecipes.com:

This is the weekly food combinations segment for our blog. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites.

This week the walnut returns and pairs up with the apple. My favorite is Red Delicious but my girls prefer Granny Smith. That is for snacking purposes. Different apples can be used for cooking. When eaten raw together both offer a crunchy aspect. The walnut has a slight bitterness which the sweet apple helps counter.

One recipe where the two work well together is apple walnut pie. The walnuts add an extra crunch to this traditional American favorite. You can try the following recipe at tasteofhome.com:

I'm starting a new weekly segment for this blog about food combinations. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites.

This week the combo is bananas and walnuts. It is a simple wholesome taste that is very comforting to me. The crunch of the walnut contrasting with the soft banana adds another dimension. It can be part of a meal or a healthy afternoon snack.

One recipe where these two ingredients thrive is banana walnut bread. It has long been one of my favorites since childhood. Here is one recipe you can try for yourself at foodnetwork.com:
