Food Combinations 052713

This is the weekly food combinations segment for our blog. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites. This segment is now on Mondays.

The combination this week is potatoes and gravy. This is a food joining that I didn't start to appreciate until I entered my late teens. As a child I didn't like the look or taste of gravy and opted for potatoes and butter only. At some point I gave it a try and it has been one of my favorites ever since. It is definitely a Thanksgiving staple and is enjoyed through out the year too. There is no such thing as too much gravy for the potatoes to bath in. Gravy is one of those enhancers that raises the normally bland potato to new levels.

One twist on this combination is to try the two in Mashed Potato and Gravy Soup. One recipe for this can be found at cooks.com:

Food Combinations 051713

This is the weekly food combinations segment for our blog. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites.

While I've discussed some combinations that have gone well together in desserts the food combination today is the grand daddy of all combos for the sweet tooth: peanut butter and chocolate. Their melding may not have been the result of a stumbling accident but the result was culinary genius. The flavors of the two sweets brings joy to my taste buds with each bite.

If you are going to indulge do it right and one recipe that puts this combination over the top is chocolate peanut butter fun cake. Check out the recipe at bonappetit.com:

Food Combinations 051013

This is the weekly food combinations segment for our blog. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites.

This week the plate showcases the pairing of eggs and salsa. Eggs have been called the perfect food. Salsa might be the perfect condiment. That makes this a can't miss union. There are so many ways to prepare eggs from scrambled to over easy. Salsa works well with all of them. I am particularly fond of salsa on my scrambled eggs.

Another joining of eggs and salsa together are in Salsa Egg Tacos. There is a pretty good recipe at marthstewart.com:

Food Combinations 050313

This is the weekly food combinations segment for our blog. Every week I will reveal one combination that I find tasty. It is a combination that is delicious by itself as a snack but will also make a recipe one of your favorites.

The combo this week is a double fruit hit of pumpkin and pineapple. Some may consider pumpkin a veggie because of it's squash characteristics but its listed as a fruit so if I can accept that you can too. Lisa thinks its strange when I eat these two together by themselves. But there is something about the sweetness of the pineapple that goes so well with the tartness of raw pumpkin puree. Plus you get all the vitamins as a bonus to the great taste.

One recipe where you can put the two together is Pineapple Pumpkin Muffins. One recipe you can try is at cooks.com:
